STUDIO MUSEUM ACHILLE CASTIGLIONI

How could i forget to write a post on this little gem. During the trip to Milan we visited the designers workshop that he used whilst he was still alive. His daughter gave the tour which made it so much more insightful, because lets face it who knows more about someone than their children?

She mentioned how good Castiglioni’s sense of humour was and that “sense of humour needs to be brought back into design because design has become very serious” and I cold not agree more. I feel as though that quote will stay with me forever… and i think i’m the one to fulfil it!

Making A Buzz Wire Game

My original idea was to have a buzz wire in the shape of the Olympic torch route and see how far participants could carry the touch towards the Olympic Stadium before buzzing. Ian Farlane, Manager of Brockwell Lido, loved the idea of the buzz wire and the noise it would make, but wanted to incorporate Olympic facts into the game as opposed to the torch route idea.

As a group we brainstormed ideas and decided the shape would incorporate abstract interpretations of iconic buildings in London.

We used 3m lengths of copper wire, using a tube bender to create the shape of the buildings and then used copper connecters to attach the whole piece together which were welded to give the  the support necessary for an activity that would be used by children.

we incorporated the facts by having playing cards which were placed at the end of each building. Participants have to guess whether they thought great britain’s ranking in that cards year was higher or lower than the previously turned card (like Bruce’s Play Your Cards Right) as well as having a little fun fact about the Olympic games that year.

BuzzyCity

Navigate your way through the iconic London City skyline and answer Olympic based questions in a reinterpretation of the classic buzz wire game. Whether individually or as a team, play your way through the different difficulties requiring a steady hand and a steady mind. This game will leave you truly buzzing…

Live Project for Brockwell Lido

“Back for it’s fifth year, The Modern Movement Festival, South London’s prestigious event celebrating 20th century design, is taking place on 5 and 6 May 2012 at Brockwell Lido, Herne Hill, London from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

Three Dimensional Design students from Camberwell College of Art have been invited to create activities to run though out the days, along with browsing a stunning range of classic vintage furniture, jewellery and object d’art from specially selected traders and architects, all set against the background of the Lido’s art deco Grade II Listed building.”
